Mrs. Laura G. Mellick is an employee within the Art Department at the Freeman Kennedy School. Laura is part-time employee (0.9), so she works five days a week, but leaves early on Fridays. The best way of contacting her is via her email which she checks on a regular basis.
She has been employed with the Norfolk Public Schools since September 2000. Throughout her time at Norfolk she has worn several different hats - from Special Needs Teacher, to Team Chairperson and Academic Diagnostician, to Visual Art teacher. Since February 2011, she has been working as a visual art teacher at the Freeman Kennedy school. Mrs. Mellick is certified to teach visual arts, mainstream elementary and middle school students, as well as, moderate special needs students Kindergarten through twelve grade. She holds a certificate from the Associate from the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Before working at Norfolk Public Schools, she worked in the Holbrook Public Schools as a Special Needs Resource teacher. From 1989 to 1999, she spent time working for a medical software company called MEDITECH, where she did corporate training and oversaw the design and development of the company's training materials as a project manager. Mrs. Mellick grew-up in western Massachusetts with her 5-siblings. She is now an aunt to 16 nieces and nephews. Mr. and Mrs. Mellick are the proud parents of three children, Drew, Maslin & Owen, who have all graduated from the King Philip Regional High School. All three children have been involved in various activities from art classes to DECA to baseball, hockey and volleyball. As a family, we love to stay active. Some of our favorite activities are camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, fishing and swimming. We love to travel as well. During the summer of 2007, we spent seven weeks on a cross country road trip where we camped in National Parks from the Grand Canyon to Big Sur to Yellowstone. If you want to see our photos, check out the Mellick Family blog. We had a blast! When Mrs. Mellick is not busy spending time with her with her family and friends, she enjoys making things from drawings, paintings, water colors, pastels, knitted scarves, and jewelry. She also enjoys cooking and baking for family and friends.
