Freeman - Kennedy School

Instrumental Music Program

Advanced Band 2017-2018

Dear Parents and Students:

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of what our award-winning instrumental music program has to offer.

All who choose to participate in the program are given the opportunity to learn about music in a variety of settings, which include lessons, sectionals, two weekly morning band rehearsals, and performances. Participation in all is required

Band Fee - There is a one-time band fee of $200.00 to participate in the Freeman-Kennedy School Instrumental Music Program. The $200.00 (non-refundable) Advanced Band Fee must be paid in full prior to the start of the Instrumental Music Program.  Please feel free to contact the Superintendent’s office should financial concerns prevent your child from accessing our program.

Lessons – Group lessons are given once a week during class time for thirty minutes. If a teacher feels that it is necessary for a student to miss a lesson, the student will be responsible for getting a note to me from that teacher.  The student will also be responsible for finding out what was introduced in the lesson.  Weekly homework assignments are given at the end of each lesson, and students are expected to come prepared the following week.  Thirty to forty minutes of home practice time five days a week is recommended.  All students should also be responsible for knowing when lessons take place.  Lessons will begin the week of September 5th.

Sectionals – All students will participate in one weekly sectional rehearsal, which will take place during recess. Students must understand that sectionals are required and recess is not a choice. During this time students will meet in larger groups of like instruments to develop skills necessary to play and perform with others.  Sectionals will begin the week of Monday, September 11th.

Band Rehearsals – Advanced Band rehearsals will take place before school on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 am to 8:45 am.  All students need to arrive no later than 7:50 am so that we may begin on time. Please do not drop off students prior to 7:40 am.  In the event that a morning rehearsal will be canceled, you will be contacted via a phone message from the school’s automated system.  Please make sure your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date.  Our first morning band rehearsal will be on Wednesday, September 13th, at 8:00 am.

I am very excited about getting started this year.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at fouracre@norfolk.k12.ma.us.

Sincerely

John Fouracre
