Homework Tips

Homework Helper

1) Let your child choose a homework spot.  Most likely, your child will want to be near you. Don't be surprised if s/he picks the kitchen.

2) Provide plenty of sharpened pencils and a good eraser.

3) Have general school supplies nearby (crayons, markers, glue stick, scissors, ruler).

4) Try to do homework around the same time each day.  Pick a time that is best for YOUR child.  Some children work best right after school.  Some children need a play break.  You know your child best!

5) Turn the TV off and put away all other electronic devices!

6) It is ok to spell words for your child to avoid unnecessary frustration.

7) Kids respond to predictable routines and positive reinforcement.

8) Make sure your child is not hungry while trying to do homework.

9)  Sometimes kids work well with quiet background music.

10)  If your child is consistently struggling with homework assignments, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I will be happy to make modifications to the homework.

Please consider setting a daily limit to screen time (tv, video games, computer).  Thank you!
