Birthdays

We would be happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in class. We cannot use food during our celebrations, but if you want to send in a favorite book with your child, I can read it to the class. If your child’s birthday falls during the summer, we can have a celebration during the last weeks of school or your child may choose a day during the year. |
Homework
Homework is given out 4 nights a week (unless there is a special event). Homework is usually a math worksheet (Home Links that coincides with our math program) and spelling assignment or vocabulary. There may be other times when homework may be a language arts or social studies worksheet. Students should also be spending 25 minutes each night reading orally to someone at home. Homework should not take more than 40 - 70 minutes each night.

Prize Store
Your child has the opportunity to earn prizes by demonstrating outstanding behavior, teamwork, leadership, and completing assigned bonus work. The children are given the opportunity to cash in their points once a month. We are always looking for extra prizes to add to our store. Donations of pencils, erasers, stickers, small toys/games, jewelry, cars, and craft items are always appreciated. |
Book Orders
Please fill out the order form and return it to school along with the money. Checks should be made payable to the book company. The order will be sent out one week after the order form goes home. It would be helpful if you could use a separate envelope for each book order. This is an optional activity. |
Communication
All notices and correspondence from home should be placed in my notes basket on my desk as soon as your child arrives at school. I always review the dismissal procedure for the day with the class as part of our morning routine. If you think that your child might have trouble remembering to put things in the basket, you might want to give some gentle reminders about what to do. If your child is attending an activity after school, we need the starting and ending dates of the activity as well as the time. No child will be dismissed without a note from a parent or guardian. Parent conferences are held twice a year. If you need to speak with me about your child’s progress, please send me a note or leave me a voicemail message and we will find a mutually agreeable time to meet. If I have a concern about your child, I will notify you immediately. |
