Homework Guidelines

Homework is used as a reinforcement of the days learning and contributes towards building responsibility and lifelong/study learning habits.  Homework is typically assigned Monday through Thursday evenings.  According to School Committee Policy #214, the set homework time for fourth graders is at 40 - 70 minutes per day.  Because homework is an integral part of each child's learning experience, homework is due the day after it is assigned unless otherwise stated (i.e. word study contract, long-term projects).  All homework turned in is expected to demonstrate the student's best effort.

Students are expected to turn in any missing assignments the next day. Parents or guardians will be contacted if their child misses three or more assignments in one marking period.  At that time, we will work together to create an action plan to help the student be organized and successful with homework.

If your child comes home without the proper materials for his/her homework, please do not rush down to the school to pick it up for them.  They need to learn responsibility.  We practice the same routine of putting our work together each day, so they should be accountable for getting their work pages into their binders.  In place of missing math worksheets, make up a few problems using the skills we are working on in class.  I will accept this as a homework assignment and your child will not be expected to redo the missing homework.  If this becomes too frequent however, I will have to change this policy.
