Class Info

REFLEX MATH

We are excited to announce a fun new computer resource designed to help children practice their addition, subtraction, and multiplication math fact fluency. As with so many things, math fact fluency develops with practice. Students are encouraged to use ReflexMath as often as possible, but at least three times per week.

Allergies
Please notify me promptly if your child has any serious allergy. Some of our students have unprocessed egg, scallop, peanut, treat and sesame allergies. Our classroom is not designated peanut-free. However, we do request that all shared party food be free of these foods.

Birthdays

As we as a nation become more mindful of the importance of school nutrition, we as a school community have rethought the tradition of the school birthday treat. This year I suggest handing out a small item or donating a book to the classroom library in lieu of the sweet birthday treat in school.

Dismissal

If you are going to pick-up your child at dismissal time or if you are going to make any other special dismissal arrangements (including after-school activities) please send in a note with your child on that day.

Homework

Homework provides your child an opportunity to build responsibility and independence. Helping your child to develop good homework habits now will lay a lifelong foundation for homework success for years to come. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns regarding homework. I do my best to provide a quick turn-around to questions asked. For tips on homework success, I recommend Lee Canter's book Homework Without Tears as an excellent resource for parents.

Home Reading is assigned four times per week.  Please help your child to record his/her home reading in his/her agenda and initial it daily. I recommend a combination of silent and shared reading of texts at a just-right level as the best way to build fluency and comprehension skills.

Make-up Work

Homework may be requested after two or more days of absence. It will be made available in the office after 3:00 p.m. upon request. Vacations should be planned for non-school days. Assignments are not provided to students before a vacation, per school policy. Students are expected to make up work when they return.

Recess and Lunch
Recess and Lunch will begin at 10:40 and end at 11:30 p.m.  All children have outdoor recess unless it is raining or below 20 degrees. In warm weather your child will need footwear suitable for running, jumping and climbing. In cold weather your child will need snow boots, snow pants, jackets, hats and gloves.

Schedule Notes

Sneakers and comfortable clothes are suggested for Phys.Ed.

Scholastic Book Club order!
We love books! Now it's easier than ever to find the perfect books for your child  with the online Scholastic Book Clubs website.  Online you can choose from a much wider selection of books than in the printed flyer. Plus, you can send your orders directly to me online and use your credit card to pay.  Scholastic Book Orders are a great way to build your home library while supporting your child's classroom. Our class activation code is HWPL6. You will need this code to link your order to our classroom. Click here to place a Scholastic Book Club order!

Snack
Snack time will be in the afternoon.  Please select small, nutritious snacks that are not too messy. If your snack requires a spoon, please remember to pack one. We are a nut-free classroom.

Volunteers

We love volunteers! Be on the lookout for sign-up notices. Please note that all school volunteers must have a current CORI-check on file before volunteering. CORI applications can be picked up from the main office.
